REDNER MAKES IT TWO IN A ROW AT BETHEL MOTOR SPEEDWAY

July 19, 2009, BETHEL,
NY –
When “Steady” Eddie Redner won the Sportsman feature at Bethel Motor
Speedway two weeks ago, it was the first time the driver had visited Victory Lane in 12
years. This past Saturday, however, the veteran driver gave notice that he
intended to get more familiar with the location as he took down his second
consecutive win in the 25-lap feature.

Redner started on the outside of the front row, with Jerry
Curry on the pole. Curry got out front on the start, but went high into turns
one and two, allowing Redner to get his nose underneath. Redner pulled
alongside Curry and then worked his way out front on the initial lap. Curry
settled into second, with Greg Morgan third. The caution waved on lap two for
an incident involving Dan Conklin, Tony Squicciarini, Mike Skelly, and Jim
Halpin. Squicciarini’s car bore the brunt of the damage, and had to be towed
from the track.. Redner and Curry led the field to green on the restart, and Redner
wasted no time grabbing the lead. Dom Roselli came to second, and Morgan held
on to third. As the laps clicked off, Redner extended his lead over Roselli,
who had put a gap between himself and the three-way battle for third taking
place between Morgan, Conklin, and Skelly. Redner’s lead was erased when the
caution flew on lap nine after Conklin and Morgan got together at the exit of
turn four. The single-file restart saw Redner out front, with Roselli and
Skelly in tow. Redner and Roselli broke away from the rest of the field, with
Roselli applying pressure to Redner. Roselli was unable to maneuver his way
around Redner, who led the field to the checkered flag. Roselli was second.
Skelly, Morgan, and Curry rounded out the top five.

When the Legends cars took to the track for their first
regular points-bearing feature in the month of July, Mike Alcaro left no doubt
that he has figured out his way around the quarter-mile track, as he captured
his sixth win in as many attempts when he claimed victory in the 20-lap event
after starting seventh. Joe Fresco and Joe Graf were on the front row for the
start of the race. Graf grabbed the top spot on the start, while Joe DeGracia
grabbed second and Matt Maring came to third.. Caution waved on lap three after
the car of Raven Schrantz spun on the backstretch. Graf was on the pole for the
restart, with DeGracia on the outside. DeGracia shot past Graf when the green
flag waved, and Maring used an inside pass to take over the second spot on lap
five. Alcaro broke into the top five on lap six, but his march to the front was
then interrupted by a yellow flag after Michael Blaskey spun between turns
three and four. DeGracia and Maring made up the front row for the restart,
which was short-lived as the caution waved almost immediately when Graf spun. DeGracia
pulled into the pits briefly under caution, and Maring inherited the pole with
Hugate on the outside. This put Alcaro in the third spot. Maring led at the
drop of the green, while Alcaro came to second and Blaskey took over third.
Alcaro wrestled the lead from Maring on lap nine, and the caution waved one lap
later for DeGracia, whose car was in the infield. Alcaro led the field
single-file to the restart, with Maring and Blaskey behind him. Blaskey spun on
the restart, but no caution was thrown as he corrected the car and continued.
Grim, however, took over third. Alcaro began to pull away, but his lead
disappeared when the caution waved on lap 17 for Schrantz. The field again
restarted single file, and Alcaro held on to his lead to claim the win over
Maring and Grim.

Joseph Graf Jr.. took the checkers for the Bandolero
division. It was Graf Jr.’s first career win.

For the sixth time in 2009, veteran BMS Modified driver John
Cote claimed the win in the division’s feature. Cote started on the pole and led every lap of the caution-free 20-lap event en route
to the victory. Cote was joined on the front row for the start by Dan Wood, and Cote shot out front at the drop of the green.
Norm Barnes grabbed second on the start, and Wood was shuffled back to third.
John Demarmels, who started the feature sixth, took over the third spot on lap
two. When the race had reached the halfway point, Cote and Barnes had distanced themselves from Demarmels and Jim Fugel, who ran
nose-to-tail for third. Barnes sat in second, waiting for an opportunity to
work his way past Cote, but Cote was able to
maintain his position in spite of Demarmels and Fugel closing the gap over the
final laps of the race. Cote went on to score
the win, followed by Barnes and Demarmels.

When the checkered flag waved on the 25-lap ECS Auto Stores
Pro Stock feature, Joe Barnes found himself in Victory Lane for the fourth time this
season. Barnes came from the sixth starting spot to grab the win in the
caution-free event. Gene Palmer started on the pole, and he was joined on the
front row by Jim Helt. Helt got out to the early lead, but Palmer was able to
nose his way back underneath, and the top three rows ran side-by-side for the
first three laps of the event until Helt put his car solidly out front. Palmer
held on to second while Jesse Hilger and Charlie Howe Jr. battled for third
behind him. Howe Jr. took third and then used an outside pass to grab second
from Palmer on lap seven. One lap later, Howe Jr.’s car got out of shape,
setting off a chain reaction behind him. When the dust settled, Helt remained
out front with Barnes second and Palmer third. Barnes immediately went to work
on closing the gap between himself and Helt, which he did when he pulled to the
inside of Helt, taking over the lead on lap 11. Mark Sylvester came to third,
and worked his way past Helt for second on lap 16. With five laps to go in the
event, Barnes had stretched his lead to nearly half a track. Further back in
the field, Howe Jr. took third. Barnes went on to claim the victory, followed
by Sylvester and Howe Jr.

Gary VanOrden returned to his winning ways, taking down his
eighth victory of the season in the 15-lap Street Stock event. Brent Shaddock
started on the pole, with VanOrden on the outside. VanOrden took the lead by a
nose, but the two fought side-by-side until VanOrden was able to take sole
possession of the lead on lap two. Vinny Stanton Sr. grabbed second, and
Charlie Houghtaling came to third on lap three. By the halfway point of the event,
VanOrden had built a sizeable lead over Stanton Sr. Further back, Houghtaling,
Joe Graf, Kevin Skelly, and Shaddock raced in tight quarters for third through
sixth. The caution waved on lap 11 after Skelly’s car came to a stop on the
frontstretch. VanOrden led Stanton Sr. and Houghtaling to the single-file
restart, and Stanton Sr. applied pressure to VanOrden as the two began to pull
away from the rest of the field. VanOrden was able to distance himself slightly
from Stanton Sr. over the final laps of the event, and claimed the win. Stanton
Sr. was second, and Houghtaling claimed third.

Woody McGibbon made his first visit to Victory Lane in the 2009 season, taking
down the win in the 15-lap 4 Cylinder Senior event. McGibbon started on the
pole, with multi-time feature winner Larry O’Donnell on the outside of the
front row. McGibbon got out front on the restart, while O’Donnell took second
and Ed Lindstadt grabbed third. Diane Hughson moved to the inside of Lindstadt
for third on lap two. Lindstadt, however, took the spot back on lap seven.
Lindstadt then looked to pass O’Donnell for second. As Lindstadt and O’Donnell
battled side-by-side for second, Paul Curry sat behind the two, and was able to
eventually work his way underneath O’Donnell to take third with two laps to go.
McGibbon drove to victory in the caution-free event, followed by O’Donnell and
Curry.

The 4 Cylinder Junior event also produced a first-time
winner for 2009, as Vinny Stanton Jr. took the checkers in the 15-lap feature.
Joe Smith and Amber VanOrden led the field to green, with A. VanOrden working
her way out front. Just behind A. VanOrden, an incident on the initial lap
involving Smith, Gary VanOrden Jr., and Kyle Elson brought out the caution. A.
VanOrden and Stanton Jr. made up the front row for the restart. Stanton Jr. got
out to the lead, and Mike Travis took over second. The caution waved again as
Robert Beech spun and several cars got together behind him. Stanton Jr. and
Travis battled it out side-by-side for the lead on the restart, with Steven
Schmidt and Jonathan McGibbon side-by-side for third behind them. Another
caution flew on lap three, after Beech and Jamie Elliott got together on the
frontstretch. The single-file restart put Stanton Jr. on the point with Travis
and McGibbon in tow. McGibbon looked to the inside of Travis for second on lap
seven, and McGibbon grabbed the spot on the following lap. With five laps
remaining in the event, the top four cars ran nose-to-tail. Travis looked to
the inside for second on lap 12, and McGibbon was forced to pit with a flat
tire. Travis, Beech, and Schmidt got together between turns three and four,
bringing the caution out on lap 12. Stanton Jr. led Chuck Clark and VanOrden
Jr. to the green for the restart with three laps to go, and Stanton Jr. pulled
away from the field over the final laps of the event. Stanton Jr. earned the
win, with Clark second and VanOrden Jr. third.
