BETHEL MOTOR SPEEDWAY NEWS Last Updated March 1, 2010 DIXON WINS LEGENDS RAFFLE March 1, 2010 BETHEL, NY – Pure luck catapulted Long Islander Glenn Dixon from being the holder of a 1-in-200 chance in a raffle drawing to being the owner of the 2010 Legends car raffled off by Bethel Motor Speedway this past weekend. His name was drawn by Greg Moldt, a designer from Shangri-La II Speedway (NY), who was recruited from a nearby booth at the Oakdale Mall Show in Johnson City, NY, to draw the winning ticket at 3 p.m. on Sunday, just minutes after the final ticket had been sold. “I am totally in shock,” Dixon stated. “I purchased the ticket because it was for a good cause, and I wanted to support both Bethel and their Young Racers Program.” All of the proceeds from the raffle are being allocated to the BMS Young Racers Program, which focuses on helping young drivers get involved in racing. The program was a success at Bethel in 2009, with an increased number of young drivers getting the opportunity to take to the track with plenty of education and support from more experienced drivers, as well as from the speedway itself. The Young Racers Program also helps to make it possible for the speedway to waive the entry fee for all Bandolero drivers, which was done in 2009 and will continue in 2010. Dixon has a long history of involvement in racing as a crew member, with experience that includes both Legends and NASCAR Modifieds. Among those he has helped is Michael Gervais Jr., who won the Rookie of the Year title and the championship in the SK Light Modified division at Stafford Motor Speedway (CT) in 2009. Ironically, Gervais was the Pro division and overall winner of the inaugural LegendStock event at Bethel in 2008. BETHEL MOTOR SPEEDWAY LEGENDS RAFFLE THIS WEEKEND February 24, 2010 BETHEL, NY – In November, the management at Bethel Motor Speedway (NY) announced that they would be raffling off a brand new 2010 Legends car for $100 per chance, with all of the proceeds to benefit the BMS Young Racers Program. Only 200 tickets are being sold, and the drawing has been slated for this Sunday, February 28th, at 3 p.m. The drawing will take place at the Southern Tier Speedworld Show to be held at the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City, New York. The BMS Young Racers Program was put in place to help young drivers get involved in racing, working with more experienced drivers to set and achieve individualized goals while also getting educated about the basics of racing. Youngsters in the program have access to information about everything from basic safety requirements to setup and driving instruction. Several young drivers took part in the program during the 2009 season, which was evident in the increased number of younger competitors at the speedway as the season progressed. “The Young Racers Program is great,” one parent commented. “It opens up a whole new world of possibilities for the young people at the track, and lets them get introduced to racing with guidance, instead of going into it blind and possibly becoming frustrated or overwhelmed by it.” There are still some tickets available. The show runs from 10 am to 9 pm on Friday and Saturday, and opens at 11 am on Sunday. Preparations are already underway - both at the speedway and in the office - for the upcoming season. The management at the speedway announced that there will be minimal rule changes for 2010. As a result, it has been decided to forgo the proposed rules meeting for 2010. Anyone who has suggestions or questions should contact the speedway office directly by calling (845) 778-3839 or by emailing bethelmotorspeed@cs.com. It was also announced that all of the regular weekly divisions that raced at the speedway will return for the 2010 season. These include the Sportsman, Pro Stock, Street Stock, 4 Cylinder Junior and Senior, BMS Modified, and INEX Legends and Bandolero classes. All BMS Modified drivers should contact the speedway office for more details. For those who are looking for holiday gift ideas for the racer(s) in their life, Bethel Motor Speedway is offering 2010 memberships at a reduced price of $50 during the month of December. Complete details are available by calling the speedway office.
